The Best Environment for Learning and The Law of Effect

Ed Scannell, author of “Games Trainers Play“,
reminded me of the “Law of Effect” during his presentation to the Washington
DC chapter of the National Speakers Association. The Law
of Effect contends that “people learn best in pleasant surroundings.”

maggianos-lecture-roomEd then went on to share a story about a group who was confined to a room
with no windows, dark walls and dark floors. After three days in this
environment, Ed did a presentation to an “emotionally confined,
claustrophobic group”. Ironically, our meeting was at Maggianno’s
Restaurant
in Bethesda - in a room with no windows, dark walnut paneling and
hardwood floors! Good thing we were there for only three hours!
